Veterinarians
Lori Reisig, DVM
Dr. Reisig grew up in Aurora, Colorado, and attended the DU Lamont School of Music. She was a middle school orchestra teacher for her first career. Her change of career came in 1996 when she attended the Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology and became a Certified Veterinary Technician. She worked in several animal hospitals in all capacities as a CVT. Her desire to grow in the profession and her love of medicine took her on to Colorado State University, where she graduated with her DVM in 2009. Dr. Reisig is a member of the AVMA and the CVMA. Lori lives in Littleton and has a sweet Staffy girl, Birdie.
Melanie Schlote, DVM
Dr. Melanie Schlote was born in Ontario, Canada, but has been in Colorado most of her life. She pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in biology with minors in French and biomedical science at Colorado State University. She then went on to pursue to a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (also at Colorado State University) and graduated in 2018. During her time in undergrad and veterinary school, she always volunteered or worked as a veterinary technician to be around animals as much as possible. During veterinary school, she developed a very strong interest in pain management and thus pursued acupuncture certification in 2018. She also developed special interests in internal medicine and dentistry. She has four pets: Rue (Labrador Retriever), Cora (Golden Retriever), Gouda & Kermit (both orange and white tabby cats). In her free time, she loves hiking, paddle boarding, yoga, Zumba, cheering on her favorite sports teams, and snuggling all her animals.
Our Staff
Tammi Schwartz
Tammi started her veterinary career as a kennel technician in 1998. While attending Bel-Rea, she worked as a receptionist and veterinary assistant until she graduated with her Veterinary Technician certification in 2002. Tammi has a particular interest in diabetes education and regulation as well as heartworm disease as a technician. Outside of work, she enjoys scrapbooking, cooking, and quilting with her sister and mom, as well as spending time camping, swimming, going to movies, and playing cards with her husband Dan and their son Zachary. They share their home with their Staffordshire Terrier mix Stella.
Lanisa Leyba

Lanisa earned a certificate as a Veterinary Assistant from Pima Medical Institute of Aurora in 2018. She has a deep passion for animals and loves working with them every day. She is currently pursing a Veterinary Technician Associate Degree with Penn Foster. Notably, Lanisa was recently selected as one of thirty recipients nationally of a full scholarship to the program. During Lanisa’s free time, she likes to play video games, listen to music, work out, and hiking with her boyfriend and their dogs, Screw and Dice.
Dana Rodriguez
Dana and her high school sweetheart have been married since 1997 and together have one daughter. She and her husband enjoy traveling together and with their friends. Additionally, she loves playing with their dog Kuda and grand dog Takaani. Her favorite way to spend her weekends are with her friends and family.
Mark Borchers
Mark started life in Montana and someday plans to retire there. In the meantime, he used his Computer Science degree to work in aerospace in Seattle on commercial jets and in Houston on the International Space Station and travel on many projects. As fun and rewarding as that sounds, he tired of the corporate life and turned to what was more important to him – animals. He moved to Denver and attended Bel-Rea, graduating in 2012, and has been happy ever since. When not working, he has volunteered for raptor education and homeless pet medical care, and he enjoys spending time outdoors. He currently exists to serve his two nap-mates, Penny and Ghost.
Jonathan Carmona
Jonathan, a San Antonio, Texas native, moved to Colorado in the Fall of 2022 – he says he is not from Colorado but got here as quickly as he could. His passion for animal care came when he was fresh out of high school and took on a kennel position at a local animal hospital. He loved to take care of the animals and play with them outside all day which grew an interest to learn more, thus he took on many positions in different fields of animal care. He managed an Emergency Animal Clinic, luxury boarding facility, and private and corporate practices to learn the best possible way to provide the best care for animals and their owners. In his free time, Jonathan likes to work on his cars, keep up with his fitness at the gym, and explore the beauty Colorado has to offer with boyfriend Adam and Maya, a Shepherd Pitbull mix. Jonathan is also pet parent to Santi, a Russian Blue.
Jodi Fortin
Jodi has been working in the medical field for over 20 years. While most of her time has been dedicated to veterinary medicine, she worked for several years in human medicine as a sterilization specialist. In addition to a Certificate in Sterile Process, Jodi also earned a Certificate as a Veterinary Assistant from Pima Medical Institute of Aurora. She has a deep love and passion for all small animals and loves helping them everyday. Jodi, a native of Littleton, Colorado enjoys all things outdoors like fishing and gardening. She is pictured with her beloved and late lab mix Trench and hopes to someday fill the void with a new fur baby.
